15 months

6/15/15

Micah is standing on his own for several seconds and tentatively tried to take a step yesterday morning. He is still not sure if he wants to try something so unpredictable when crawling seems to be such an effective mode of transportation! He knows so much more than we even realize most of the time. When we are reading him books he can point to most of the objects and animals when asked "where is the ___." If we say "head," or "ahead," or anything similar he immediately and excitedly points to his head. He wiggles his fingers and toes when asked, does the cutest hand motions ever seen for the song "its bitsy spider," and tries to mimic the words we say (today for instance, he said "giraffe" after mama read him a book about giraffes. He can sign "more," "eat," and "milky," and is communicating very clearly what he wants from us a lot of the time. For instance if he wants mama to nurse him he walks over to the couch, points at it, and signs "more milky." So. Stinkin. Cute! He LOVES My Gym and will lift up both his hands in the air for "hooray" if prompted with "hip hip" or when he is excited and thinks it's an appropriate moment for a hip hip hooray. He still loves his dry "o's" cereal and teething cookies and expects them every time he gets in his car seat (clearly, we are not above bribery in this family). He loves to ride his dragon around the parking lot of our complex, knows exactly how to get to the park and demands we go there whenever we leave the house for a walk, blows kisses, gives kisses and hugs, loves to beat up daddy to wake him in the morning (and laughs and laughs about his antics). His favorite toys are still his books but he also loves his toolbox, legos, daddy's guitar, and his teddy bear, whom he now sleeps with. When mama nurses Micah to sleep he will sometimes abruptly sit up and point to teddy bear in his crib so that he can hold him while fe falls asleep (too sweet!). He LOVES music and dancing and will point to the stereo system and says "ah!" until we turn on the music. He makes the same funny smile and faces that mama made as a toddler and cracks us up with his wide range of expressions. He is a happy, serious, inquisitive, silly, smart, sweet, and fun-loving little guy and we just love him to pieces!

7/4 We have started our 4th of July traditions! Mama always went to the parade in her small town for the 4th of July and now we have the HB parade that is in walking distance of our house. Micah LOVED looking at the parade floats and kept saying "cah" (car) and getting especially excited for any floats that had music or balloons. If we teach Micah something once he has it down. For instance, mama taught him to raise one hand above his head when music comes on "woop woop" and now he does it every time! He loves to be around and observe people. He is such a joy.

7/5 Micah is officially walking! He took a couple steps for daddy the other day but today he is actually cruising. Mama was getting ready and Micah was playing on the floor of her closet when she asked him to come over to her. She crouched down in front of him and he tried to grab her hand but she backed up and he walked right to her! He then proceeded to walk all over mama and daddy's bedroom like he'd been doing it all along! So cute! We have decided that our guy waited until he was ready to have it down like a pro and now he is just all over the place. So cute! We also bought his first potty today! He is much too young to even think about being "potty trained" but we wanted to have it around for him to get familiar with so that when he is ready he can initiate the process. We let him pick in Target and of course he picked the one that look like a fire truck.Well, it shouldn't have been any surprise to us that he would want to climb aboard the potty and ride it...or that he would be frustrated that the wheels were simply a decorative piece and it would not roll... no matter how much he tried to push it across the floor. Poor guy! He is doing so much these days. He knows all of his body parts now and will point to them when asked (head, shoulders, knees, toes, nose, eyes, mouth, belly button!) Soooo smart! He can also "roar" like a tiger in this cute soft whisper, meow like a kitty cat, MMMMMM like a moo cow, and quack like a duck. He can point to most things in his book when prompted "where is the__", still loves to dance and "raises the roof" whenever his jam comes on, signs "more," "milky," and "eat." Says "guitar" when he wants to play with daddy's guitar, still loves drumming on anything he can get his hands on, and will drop it like it's hot if he's feeling the beat.

Updates

4/1/15 Micah has changed so much since his first birthday! He is just getting so big! At his recent well baby check he measured at 31 inches (90th percentile), 21.6 lbs (65th percentile), and 47 1/2 cm for his head (90th percentile). He is crawling up and down the stairs, pointing at everything and labeling it, he loves ceiling fans and his airplane mobile and points at them constantly, he is in love with his new push car that he got for his birthday and if we go our through the garage he will point at it and say "gah"..go?? car?? I don't know but it's adorable. We love taking his little car across the street to the park and swinging. Yesterday daddy took him for a ride in his push car while mama was at work and decided to pass the park-Micah protested by yelling and pointing at the park! He knew just where to go!! He LOVES books and will bring you book after book to read. He also likes to sit on the floor and look through books while he's playing independently. He points to different pictures and says "co" or "gah" and loves when mama makes up silly sayings for his animal numbers book. He has a book that has pictures that slide over to reveal something on the other side (2 monkeys pushed aside to reveal that there are actually 5 monkeys) so mama would say "oh wait a minute! There are FIVE monkeys" and so on, and Micah would just crack up hysterically...so cute. He also thinks it's very funny when mama uses her best British accent to say "top of the morning to you!" (sometimes proceeded by sneezing off her top hat aka nesting cup). His laugh is the best sound in the world.

Date night! Thanks Gramma Lind!

4/13/15
Micah's favorite thing is still books! All day long he brings us book after book to read (and he has some favorites that he asks for the most, including this one). I love this book and bought it back in September because it is the perfect book for Fall. I have always kissed his cheek after I read this page but now when I read it he bends down and kisses the cheek of the baby in the book. Melts my heart!♡
Also, ever since his birthday balloons he always points to the pictures of the red balloon when we read Goodnight Moon...such a sweetie!

4/17/15 Micah continually surprises us with all that he can do. Yesterday he put the triangle and hexagon shapes in his shape sorter, pointed to the banana in the book when mama asked him where it was, brought daddy one of his favorite Dr. Seuss book about drumming when daddy said "dum ditty dum dum"-a line from the book. He is climbing on everything and wants to be very independent-especially at the park. He climbs up and down on the equipment and doesn't want help, even when it's very high up! He loves to be at the park and to see other kids, he just squeals with delight and gives them a huge smile until they acknowledge him. We always take his car to the park and he loves the drive there but he is always crying on the way home because he HATES leaving! He gives the saddest little face and waves bye-bye to everything at the park...very cute and sad! He also loves pushing his little walker around and is SO proud of himself. He is learning to steer his ride-on dragon and rides it around and around the kitchen island. He figured out how to put the finger puppet on his little pointer finger and gets so excited to show daddy and mama just how smart he is! Any time we leave the house we end up talking to a lot of strangers because Micah spends the whole time waving "hi" and "bye" and people and charming them with his sweet little smile. Mommy's still got it too!

5/8 Micah has started saying "tickle tickle tickle;" is loving all of his musical toys; still loves to drum and is always drumming on his thighs when he hears a beat; when he gets an owie he pats the part of his body that's hurt with the cutest little expression on his face; mimics mama in the kitchen and puts bowls and dishes in his play oven; has taken one swim lessons so far- he did great, but didn't like getting water in his ears; has started taking my gym classes-which he loves; and loves to climb on just about anything he can including the step ladder in mama's closet, and inside of his tupperware drawer in the kitchen. He loves his water bug bath toys and often falls asleep with one in each hand. He had his first dentist appointment and hates to have his teeth brushed (but loves to brush mama and daddy's teeth). He learned to blow kisses today, gives hugs, kisses, and cuddles to his stuffed animals, books, and us! He is the cutest, snuggliest guy around and we just love him so much!
